How to Identify Your HURD Parts

Follow this step-by-step guide to gather all the information needed to order the correct replacement parts for your HURD windows and doors.

To ensure you receive the correct replacement parts, please gather the following information before placing your order. Each step includes detailed instructions to help you.

Find the Manufacturing Date

The manufacturing date is essential for finding the correct replacement parts.

1Look in one of the four corners of the glass for an etched date
2Check the spacer bar between the two panes of glass for a stamp
3If no date is found, provide the year your home was built
Tip:The date format is typically MM/YY or MM/YYYY

Identify Your Window or Door Type

Determine which type of window or door you have.

Windows: Casement, Awning, Double Hung, Single Hung, Sliding
Doors: Sliding Patio Door, Swinging Patio Door

Determine the Exterior Finish

Identify whether your window has aluminum cladding or primed wood exterior.

1Check if the exterior is metal (aluminum clad) or painted wood
2If aluminum clad, note the color from our color options

Measure Glass Dimensions

Accurate measurements ensure you get the right size replacement.

1Measure only the exposed (visible) glass area
2Measure width from edge to edge of visible glass
3Measure height from edge to edge of visible glass
4Do NOT include the frame in your measurements

Find the Glass ID Number

The Glass ID is required for all sash and glass replacements.

1Look for a code etched directly on the glass (usually lower corner)
2Check the metal spacer channel between the glass panes
3The code is typically 1-2 letters followed by 3 numbers
Example: L302CC
Tip:This code uniquely identifies your glass configuration

Determine Hinging / Handing

Always determine handing as viewed from OUTSIDE your home.

Casement: Hinged Left, Hinged Right, Fixed, Picture
Awning: Operator, Fixed
Double Hung: Top Sash, Bottom Sash, Fixed, Picture
Sliding Window: Operator-L, Operator-R, Fixed, Picture
Sliding Patio Door: Operator, Fixed, Sidelite
Swinging Patio Door: Hinged Left, Hinged Right, Fixed

Check Hardware Color

Match your hardware color for a seamless repair.

Some patio door handle sets may be Contemporary or French lever style

Additional Information Needed

For Sash Replacement

In addition to the basic information above, please provide:

  • Grill lite pattern (e.g., 2W x 3H or Queen Anne)
  • Is glass tempered? (Yes/No)
  • Is glass obscure? (Yes/No)
  • Grilles in airspace? Contoured or flat
  • Hurd divided light color and size (5/8", 7/8", 1", 1-1/4", 2")

For Double/Single Hung Balance Systems

Please provide:

  • Glass width and height
  • Balance color: White or Beige
